Editing...
Ugh, big revision/edit time....

bre2004 did a MASSIVE edit job on my manuscript, so now I not only wrote up one of my alternate endings for it to show to several people and get opinions, I get to go through the nitpicky stuff now. Word usage, grammar, take this sentence out, put more here, all that good stuff. I just finished the first chapter though, so one down, fifty-nine to go.

The editing process is so fucked up. As much as a person says they can handle constructive criticism, when it comes down to it, you still look at things like this as your baby and freak out over certain aspects. At least I do. I sat for about four hours yesterday working to convince myself that everything she wrote to me is all to be helpful. It's not like she's going to take a shitload of time (because she REALLY did a very detailed awesome job) just to trash me.

Besides, getting to revisit my characters is SO much fun, especially the alternate ending. I remember when I finished the first rough draft and was just depressed because it was done after I had worked on it for about a year and a half.

Rant over. Back to the editing process...

::hugs:: I TOTALLY feel you on the editing process. Even though you know it's irrational, you feel like, deep down, everyone should see the awesomeness that you wrote and say that it's perfect just the way it is. Even though you KNOW it's not, and you KNOW it needs some work (if not a LOT of work). The worst is when a section you're really proud of just doesn't work for another person ;P

Thank you! :) It's so nice to hear that, kind of like a breath of fresh air while I get through all my pages of editing here...

Editing drives me nuts sometimes!
Lady Mansonladymanson on July 28th, 2010 02:01 pm (UTC)
You said it. :) Btw, I haven't had a chance to start working on your art yet mainly cuz work was like, psycho busy last week and this week I have family in town. I have some ideas though. I know you had the Angela one you wanted me to do - did you have any specific text you wanted for it? I ask because I didn't know if you wanted text regarding her character or the girl that plays her.
lindsay aka niki1988niki1988 on July 28th, 2010 09:49 pm (UTC)
I'm just happy when it's over.

Okay, I wasn't sure. Yeah things are STILL busy here. Oh, no rush, whenever you have time. Maybe the line from Dracula 'I've crossed oceans of Time to find you' and their names. Does that work?
Lady Mansonladymanson on July 29th, 2010 06:42 pm (UTC)
I have lots of lines like that if you would like me to do various different lines. I'm not a big fan of using the same text repeatedly and that line has actually been used about four times in my art because I just LOVE it. But I'm sure I could find some more cool lines like that for it.

Okay, would you want to show them to me?

Sorry, I didn't know you used ti before.

Like I said, no rush.

Heh. Now I feel bad lol - but I did it for you! haha Just keep repeating that, lol.

I understand it completely, I really do. Refer to the icon... it applies to all fiction. :P

Oh, don't feel bad, you did an awesome and HONEST job which is important. Besides, I'm fine about all of it today - I've been gleefully writing back stories for the past twenty hours.
I think the worst part was when you said that you hated the ending, but then you said you liked the idea of the other ending at the bottom, which was a total surprise because I didn't know anything was going to be at the bottom. Plus, that was my original ending and one I liked better. So I actually wrote the other one yesterday.
:)

Yay!! That's awesome!

Yeah... I really didn't like the ending, it was way too easy and this story deserved something with a more gut-punching ending, something that makes you think, "Damn! This poor woman." And I'm sorry, I thought I put in that I would have more at the end, I wanted to keep it down there for alternatives. :P I didn't want to leave it at "Suck it" and run away, lol. That's a jerk move and I was already being jerky with the amount of notes I had. :P

lol - I'm excited to see what you've done!!! :) Good luck with the re-writing, that's definitely usually the hardest part.

People that leave it at 'suck it' and run away are called agents that don't like your material. You TOTALLY prepped me for them too, so I love that. But your were helpful. Those people can be mean rather than helpful in some cases.

I love how some of your questions in the story show what you don't know about the music industry. I was telling my husband last night that I was tempted to just send you a copy of Pantera's tour videotapes. Some of the stuff seems too outrageous to be real until you actually see it. :)

Oh, I forgot to tell you, I love the comment about my vocabulary. I tend to actually talk like that and my not very grammatic husband often gets confused. I blame it on Hunter S. Thompson. That man had a massive vocabulary. He wrote things like: "The car's dash had dials on it that lit like frogs on a dynamite pond." Who comes up with things like that???

Lol - I'm glad I could help in that respect. I figured since you were serious about getting it published, I would be serious about my opinion and like I said, I'm damn opinionated and know what I like and don't like (for the most part lol).

And that was kind of the point too (about the music industry)! A lot of people don't know a whole lot, including me. I freaking love music... but I could give a rat's ass about their lifestyles, personally, so I don't really pay all that much attention to it which is a big part of why I questioned so much.

Remember all the Facebook questions I had? You did such an awesome job answering all of them and explaining what I wanted to know, you should totally do that in the story, it gives more depth and novels can never have too much depth, says I.

You do have a rockin' vocabulary, lol - it was a lot of fun to read in that respect because it made me think more and about different words as opposed to the same old thing over and over, lol. Awesome people come up with things like that! Lol! I think we would have some pretty awesome conversations, lol - and then this brings me about again to the story, lol - talking in character was one thing that worked against the vocabulary thing.
