To anyone who writes fanfic...
Ugh, I need someone to vent to.  Things like this are the reason I don't write a lot of fanfic.

I got an email this morning regarding my latest fanfic, telling me that the characters I wrote were nothing like the characters on the shows, based on their actions.  This is why I hate writing fanfic.  When I write my own fiction, I own the characters and can do whatever the hell I want with them.  With other people's characters, there's that whole thing about keeping within their boundaries.

I am neither Eric Kripke nor am I Joss Whedon, but I feel that I am doing a halfway decent job with the characters I am writing about.  They are my version of someone else's characters, hence the whole AU thing.

For once, I went back and told this to the person.  I wasn't snotty about the remark, I simply told them why I wrote the way I did.  Funny, they didn't respond.  And I found out that they have written nothing but similar reviews to other people and have written nothing of their own.  So that makes me feel better.

Thanks for listening to me vent.  And to all those on LJ who have left comments on my fanfics, you are awesome.  I have found nothing but decent comments from you, so thank you.

This is one of the reasons why I stopped posting my fanfics. People kept saying 'LOLOL BUFFY WOULD NEVER DO DAT!' Seriously? You're not Joss Whedon, you don't know that. These are stories that we want to tell through someone else's characters, and sometimes it takes a little tweaking. I've always admired your fanfics, they're very enjoyable to read. :)

Don't even listen to people like that. Its your story and you can tell it however YOU want.I think you are very talented and I bet others think so too.So I say don't respond to others who dislike how you write.Listen only to positive remarks and constructive comments. And,I'm here anytime you need to vent baby girl. Now go write and create fic that YOU want.TY for sharing your gift with us in lj.

Never let that bring you down. When writing fanfiction, we can portray the characters we choose in any way we want whether if they are our own characters or from our favorite tv shows/movies/books/creative minds.

And screw that user!

Dude, people are flamers. They need to throw those flaming comments into a... fireplace or something and then you can tell them to go fuck themselves, albeit more nicely I guess. People are just rude like that, they are the kind of people that aren't happy with the show even and think there a million ways to fix it and then they don't lift a finger to change anything (such as fanart and fanfiction).

When I was really writing fanfiction heavily, I used to put in my feedback comment area that anybody who had a rude comment would get a rude response, lol. Constructive criticism is one thing but telling you your story sucks and leaving it at that? Means they want me to tell them they fail at life and obviously have no skills at anything other than trying to put other people down.

Fugg'em.

lol ;P

And then you can laugh at it later when you realize you are writing awesome stuff and they are jealous. :P
