Book Meme Day 08
Day 08 - Most overrated book

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

To begin, I am deciding this to be one of the most overrated books based on critical reception.  If I were going off fan reaction, the Twilight books would win this spot.  I'm not saying that either are not good because I absolutely LOVE the story in this book, but it seemed to me that when it came out, everyone made it out to be the greatest thing ever written.  I tried several times to read it and couldn't get into it.  This is while I have a husband who adore's Dan Brown's work, so it's not all that easy with him saying, "You just need to KEEP going" once I couldn't do it anymore after about eight chapters.  Again, I think it's a good tale and although I cannot handle Dan Brown's writing style, I have to give him credit because it's still well done.  However, I could have heard less about it.

I actually never read this book (did read the one before that was made as a sequel in movies) and only saw the movie but based on my experience from reading the first book and the book after this, he has a great mind and idea where he wants to go with the story but it can get somewhat long.

Now I know not to go looking for this ;)

That the same feeling I have. It's a fantastic story. I remember when we saw the movie and my husband told me the Catholic Church was all up in arms about it. I'm like, "Why? I'm Catholic - I love it. It's FICTION." Everyone takes themselves so damn seriously these days, it's just sad.

Yeah, it's much like how I love Stephen King stuff, but sometimes it can just be written SO extensively that it is downright tiring.

On another note, I'm glad to see you on LJ more lately. I'm not much of a Twitter person, so the only place I really get any communications with you lately is Facebook. :)

Was the same thing with the second movie, they weren't even allowed into the Vatican to film. So everything right outside the church is built up in a studio somewhere in the states. It's ridiculous. But somehow I'm not surprised, the church (whichever religion) takes itself too damn serious.

(just like it did when our Crown Princess got married. The church oposed her wish for her father to lead her down the aisle. "it's not swedish tradition" "it's old and not fair to the groom" etc etc.. seriously silly. People got all up in arms about it not being gender equality *sigh*)

I know. I tried read IT a bunch of years ago, but I never finished. And I love that movie and the entire story! maybe I should give it another go, it's been like 10 years since I tried last, and that time in Swedish. wonder if it'll work better in English and now that I actually enjoy reading.. but still, the man can draw it out so much it gets painful *eyeroll*

I "blame" work for me returning. I get moments when I have nothing to do, so I peruse LJ. I'm also more active on Facebook than I had planned. I only got an account so I could play games, dammit! *lol* But I'm glad to be back in a small scale, its good catching up with you guys, I missed you! I just need to find inspiration and time for photoshop. I do a little from time to time but not much and I rarely finish what I start. I miss making icons *sigh*

(sorry, I'm rambly!)
