Book Meme Day 11
Day 11 - A book you hated

Dead Until Dark

I don't really hate any books. I feel that I can usually come back to them later and feel better about them at different points in my life. The following also falls under that category. This was really unfortunate for me because I love the show True Blood and I was so eager to read the books. I got through this one and got as far as halfway through the second one, but then gave up. I just could not stand them. It wasn't the story because I liked that, but the writing. I felt like I was reading out of a diary of someone who was really not all that smart, for lack of a better term. The wording just drove me nuts. And I tried really hard because I know tons of people that love the books and figured I'd get through the first and maybe it would get better, but I just couldn't do it. This is very strange too because usually I like the books better than a movie or TV series, but this is just the opposite. I actually have tried to re-read them lately, but it's still difficult. Something tells me that if these books had been written in third person, I may have liked them better, but Sookie's first person makes me crazy.

Damn. That's a shame, I was wanting to read them as well because I love the show.

You might like them. I'm kind of in the minority when it comes to these books, lol. :)

I enjoy the books, but I don't like Sookie. She makes me want to just smack her several times throughout the series, but she does make me like all the supporting cast around her.

I actually like the books better than the television series.

Yeah, see, I think it's that it's from Sookie's POV that it bugs me so much. I really like the overall story, but her POV makes me crazy.

The third one for me was when the series got really good. The first one is sort of boring, the second is okay...at least the bits with the Dallas vamps (I thought), but the third had a lot more going on. That was the one I thought was the break through of the series.

TOo bad you didn't like the first ones though. They had their moments.

I should start with the third one. I have a tendency to start books a bit out of order at times, so maybe that would interest me a little more.

I totally agree! Unfortunately I didn't give myself enough time to find my momentum in them, I was at the bookstore reading throught he first one because I was contemplating whether or not I should get the entire series. I just couldn't get into it! I agree, trying to read through Sookie's thoughts was very difficult, but I'm gonna make another go for it... if anything, for Eric. lol

Yeah, see? We all have the same thought process in regards to this, lol.
